Silver Stone Handcrafted
Meet the couple making stunning handcrafted jewelry and sandblasted stones.
Mary and Spencer Watson have been husband and wife as well as creative partners since 1992. Living in the Chicago area, they sell their work at select shows and galleries and on their website, silverstonehandcrafted.com
Each unique piece created by Mary’s skilled hands is a combination of metal smithing techniques and settings of unusual materials like jaspers, fossils, agates, opals and more. Working primarily in sterling silver with the occasional yellow gold accents, her work is eye-catching and beautifully crafted. Many of the jewelry pieces are then set on a display base that let the jewelry become small scale sculpture when not in use.
Spencer uses hand-picked lake stones and a sand-blasting process to sculpt faces into the stones. The personalities of the stones are perfect in groups and the smaller ones even make an appearance in Mary’s jewelry.
Silver Stone Handcrafted has accumulated quite a list of awards over the last 30 years, most recently Jurors’ Choice Award for “Opal Spiral” at the Lewton-Brain Foldform Competition in October 2021. Their work has been exhibited all over Illinois and Wisconsin and has appeared in many publications.
