Sharing a curated playlist can be a deeply personal experience. Now imagine that each song was written and recorded by you, that takes courage.
After starting to post singing videos on TikTok, Alec Duckart, Searows, amassed a following that yearned for more music from him. It took a few years, but on September 30, 2022, “Guard Dog” was released, Duckart’s first album.
A melancholy indie sound that is frequently compared to Phoebe Bridgers, Duckart’s voice floats over the strum of guitars. The album “Guard Dog” is the perfect soundtrack for a journaling session or a cloudy drive through the countryside. Duckart’s control of his voice gives him great dynamics with sustained notes filled with emotion.
The entire album was written, recorded, produced, and mixed by Duckart, with some of the tracks recorded in the crawl space under his house. A true look into some personal relationships in his life, “Guard Dog” touches on the intricacies and intimacies in human relationships.
Duckart wrote this on his Instagram post celebrating the release of the album:
“I’ve spent so many hours and months and years figuring out how to make something that was honest and true and exactly what I wanted it to be. I am not particularly known for being emotionally vulnerable in my normal life which makes this a very terrifying thing to share with anyone who wants to listen.”
From Portland, Oregon, Duckart is based in the Pacific Northwest and frequently performs live around Portland as well as joining other artists on tours around the country.
