When anthropologists and historians study the human race, the past comes to life through everyday objects and artwork.
Think of your favorite person. If you had to describe them, would you only state emotional and physical traits? Or would you include little knick knacks like beautiful perfume bottles, keychains, or their favorite gum they always carry?
The contents of a person’s purse is a deeply personal glimpse into someone’s life in the time they are living. Rising artist Sabrina Montella paints these objects, the ones that bring people to life.
Completely self-taught, Montella grew up with an aptitude for creating and the arts. Combining her fascination of vintage photographs and goods with her realism painting style, each work captures a moment in time.
Using her own purse as a reference, her piece “purse dump” is a glimpse into Montella’s life. She is a lover of vintage items, (pins, gloves, a cool mirror, and playing cards) but she also carries around a paint brush and a tube of paint which are juxtaposed by modern headphones and car keys. Here is a young woman and the items she carries to face the world (or just play a game of golf).
