Have you ever heard of slow fashion?
In an industry that relies heavily on mass produced fashion trends, fast fashion is not sustainable with 66% of the textiles used each year ending up in a landfill.
To combat this, Andrea Golberg founded Andrea G. Hand + Made, a brand focused on mindful contemporary fashion. She writes,
“We are conscious of the environmental impact of the fashion industry and desire to create less, but more beautiful pieces that will last for years. Pieces that fit into your everyday life, yet also spark joy and conversation.”
Golberg’s designs are a fresh take on classic silhouettes, and exceptional skill and artistry go into each unique piece. With a team made of one, Golberg designs, constructs, and photographs each item in her studio in Montreal, Canada. She has a degree in Commercial Photography from Dawson College with many years of technical design experience and even an apprenticeship in Shoemaking.
They kicked off the month of March with a fashion show at Chaque Mois, a retail gallery in Montreal. Andrea G. Hand + Made will have items for sale there throughout the month.
They currently have 20 items available, with most of them appropriate for the office that can be dressed up for an event. Using high quality materials, each piece is created to be in someone’s closet for years to come. Clean lines and a sparse use of prints make the collection a streamlined capsule wardrobe.
Check out the “Eva Jacket,” a garment paying homage to their design philosophy, “a little chic and a little playful.” A structured jacket, the cut outs in the front and back add dimension to a simple silhouette that is cinched at the waist.
Now in their second year of business, Golberg is at the beginning of an upward practice of avoiding fast fashion. Make sure to follow their journey on Instagram @angreaghandmade and check out their website here to see what is available.
