Susannah King is a fourth generation goldsmith. With the art of wax casting, King sculpts organic shapes around unusual clusters of colorful gemstones.
King started out working in her father’s goldsmith shop as a repair goldsmith. Her experience around her father and her mother, a gemologist, inspired her to start her own business in 2018. This year has been a busy year for King as she moved to a new storefront and shared the renovation and decoration process on TikTok.
King’s designs are an extension of her personality and she makes sure to put out work she is connected to. In a recent Instagram post of a finished ring, she shares a bit about her struggles with mental health and how those experiences can inspire her collections.
“My own personal challenges consistently inspire me to create. My original collection ‘Orgaya’ was created when I suffered a loss to my business. My ‘Vita’ collection was inspired by new beginnings after pain. This piece [Art Ring] (pictured above) came from a place of reminding myself that self-love is a vital need. It’s not always possible to maintain self-love, but it’s important to hold it in mind.”
Her latest collection MATHILDE is four breathtaking pieces with diamonds, moissanite, and lab-grown emeralds. Art jewelry and second hand jewelry is also available on her website here.
King’s jewelry is perfect for any fashion maximalist and she “uses bright colour palettes to decorate you differently.” Not only are her designs distinct, but she shares her fun personality on her TikTok account explaining her process.
At Actuality, we have been following King’s journey for the past couple of years and hope to own one of her one-of-a-kind designs one day.
