Curating the natural world
Kate Walton is a painter and wallpaper designer based in London, England.
Wallpaper seems to be making an interior design comeback in 2023, appearing as not just an accent wall but adding dimension to entire rooms.
Artist Kate Walton’s wallpaper designs, inspired by the natural world, will turn any space into the interior of a Victorian mansion. Typically depicting wildlife and botanicals, the rich yet muted color palates are perfect for a cozy, maximalist home.
Walton began her career painting murals and chinoiseries in country estates around England. Transferring her skills as a painter to designing wallpaper, her collections grew after she became a mother. Instead of traveling to the customer, her designs make the trip for her.
“Influenced by nature, botanicals, her world travels and treasured memories from her childhood home, Kate can often be found working late into the night, experimenting with texture and bold colours, her work embodying vibrant life.”
She also works on art prints and commissioned works in her distinct style. Walton writes,
“Portraits, inspired by the people I've met and the travels I've been on, have always been a medium that's set me free. Emulating what's in my head to paper is magic I never tire of.
Exploring the intricacies of pattern and symbol while adding textures and layers, create portraits reminiscent of a bygone era.
As with all my works, I incorporate elements of our natural world, celebrating the very close relationship we have to it, and our responsibility to care and protect it.”
Not only is she inspired by the natural world, but works to protect it any way she can. As a vegan and cruelty free company, proceeds from each purchase goes to planting a tree.
