If you liked Melt (featured in our third newsletter), chances are you are going to vibe with the equally funky, jazzy, and ridiculously talented Couch.
At home on playlists beside Lake Street Dive, Melt, NONEWFRIENDS, and Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment, the septet exude immaculate vibes.
Based in Boston, Couch is Tema Seigel (lead vocals), Zach Blankstein (guitar/bass), Jared Gozinsky (drums/percussion), Will Griffin (bass), Danny Silverston (keys), Jeffrey Pinsker-Smith (trumpet/brass), and Eric Tarlin (sax/vocals/synth), regularly joined by Ella Atkinson (supporting vocals). While scattered all over the country at different universities, the band managed to stay together as a “long-distance band,” even virtually recording.
Couch released their debut EP “COUCH” in February 2021. Their track “Still Feeling You” is an instant jam, perfect for dance party in your living room or belting in the car. Seigel’s vocals are strong, cutting through intricate basslines and layered horns. “The band injects each track with their signature flavor: expressive horns, warm vocals, and bubbling synths—crafting an oasis of joy for musicians and non-musicians alike.”
This fall, Couch released three singles, “Saturday,” “Poems,” and “Autumn.”
While their tracks have been streamed millions of times, seeing the band live is a true showcase of their training in jazz, musical theater, and a cappella. Regularly posting on their TikTok account (couch.theband), most of their videos are live performances, even showing behind the scenes of how they communicate on stage during solos and breaks. They even did a jazzy cover of Harry Styles’ “Late Night Talking” at one of their live shows last month.
Playing Brooklyn Bowl in Philadelphia on New Year’s Eve, the band is gearing up for a series of shows in the midwest before heading to the Northeast and the UK. Check out show dates and tickets here!
