"Alphabetically We're First": The A's
An indie-folk duo to accompany a long drive down country roads.
Amelia Meath and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig are long-time friends and collaborators known as the duo The A’s. Living in Durham, North Carolina, both are also members of the folk trio Mountain Man with Molly Sarlé. The duo released their first project together, an album called Fruit, in July of 2022.
Fruit fits seamlessly on a playlist alongside The Hail Maries, Rubblebucket, Lucius, and First Aid Kit for a quirky indie-folk vibe perfect for a unique coffee shop experience. Fruit is a collection of “weird cosmic cowboy songs,” starting off with a cover of “He Needs Me” from the movie Popeye (1980) sung by Shelley Duval.
The duo performed an NPR Tiny Desk Concert on December 1st. While it was their first appearance for this project, Meath joined Nick Sanborn as Sylvan Esso in 2015. Mountain Man performed in 2019 and Sauser-Morning appeared just before COVID with her project Daughter of Swords. With just their vocals and an acoustic guitar, Fruit comes to life starting with yodeling on their track “When The Bloom Is On the Sage.”
Their voices blend with a familiarity that only comes with years of experience singing and performing together. Follow The A’s on Instagram @the.as to see what wonderfully wacky albums they produce next.
