A Wanderer Over a Sea of Fog
Luke Faulkner's neoclassical compositions accompanying our daily lives.
Is social media going to be the savior of classical music?
It’s safe to say that many outside the classical world see the genre as a dying star, just part of history. Although names like Beethoven and Mozart will never be forgotten, the average person would not be able to differentiate the two’s musical compositions.
With 65.9k videos under the sound “Clouds” on TikTok, Luke Faulkner finds his music to be part of contemporary piano compositions accompanying the younger generation’s version of home movies and creative projects.
“Under the Stars,” a melancholy waltz Faulkner recently released, seems a sister composition to “Clouds.” Both perfect for pondering while on a quiet stroll.
Neoclassicism: in music was a twentieth century trend, particularly current in the interwar period, in which composers sought to return to aesthetic precepts associated with the broadly defined concept of "classicism", namely order, balance, clarity, economy, and emotional restraint.
Faulkner, born in Shropshire, England, lives and works out of London as a Neo-classical composer and pianist. Studying at Christ Church, University of Oxford before completing a Master of Science in Composition for Screen at University of Edinburgh in 2014, he has 16 classical albums available on all streaming platforms.
Released on December 2, “Winter Morning” is a perfectly calming and comforting album for the season. A warm blanket, a good book, and a charming fire deserve to be paired with the popular winter compositions of Tchaikovsky, Lyadov, Rachmaninoff, Rubinstein, Glinka, and Prokofiev effortlessly flowing from Faulkner’s hands.
With an active YouTube account to release videos for his compositions, Faulkner is working on a series of EPs featuring piano and strings that will be released throughout 2023-24.
